Visual Identity, Experience Design, Environmental Design, & Print | Student Work
A museum exhibition on the origin and history of the popular board game, Monopoly™. The design is influenced by the game’s pre-existing design and is based off of its historical background. Graphics, a narrative literature, and exhibit interactivity help to bring the game to life, while also putting a modern twist on the classic game.

Board games are fun, nostalgic, and often have very interesting background relating to their creators and design. Monopoly specifically came to mind as a game that many, even those that haven’t played much, recognize. Thus, making it an item worthy of more investigation and of its own exhibit.
The design of Monopoly is extremely strong, so putting my own twist on it was a must, all while keeping the original integrity and identifiable features of the game.
My own designs are grounded in a few features I discovered to be related to the game’s history as well as its design:
Color blocking – like on the game board
Thick Black Lines – also apparent on the game board
Art Deco Stylization – referring back to the 1930’s, when the game really took off.
Halftones – the popular printing method around the time of the game’s beginnings
All of this combines to make a bright, bold, and fun exhibit that helps bring the game to life, while teaching visitors all about the game they love and have great memories of.
